Mey 10k Run 2010 Update
Mey 10K Run 2010 For the second Mey 10k race, the organisers once again were lucky enough to choose a perfect day to hold the event. Do they have a special hotline to the weather-makers?
It was sunny and dry but not too hot and 350 runners left at 2.00pm. Contestants came from near and far, including Sussex, Orkney, Aberdeen and Edinburgh and all age groups were represented. Closest to home were several entrants from the Castle staff and members of their families. Below is a picture of James Murray, Trust Administrator, signing in.[image1]
Veronica Clark, Tearoom Supervisor and her husband Malcolm, who also ran, are shown before the race.
A new event this year was the childrens' race. They were all given a medal when they finished and proudly left the run wearing their trophies, with no doubt many, 'I want to keep it on in bed' requests when they reached home!
Miss Anne Dunnet the Lord Provost of Caithness started both races off and encouraged the children with the words 'Run like mad and maybe you'll beat your parents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles or friends to the finishing post'.
The spectators were treated to a fun gymnastic display whilst the runners organised themselves.
The winner was Andrew Douglas who achieved a time of just under 32 minutes. The first woman home was Emma Dunnet from Edinburgh.
