The New Turret is Open

The Opening of the new Turret

The Turret in the walled garden that so many people had generously contributed to was opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Caithness, Miss Anne Dunnett, on Friday 23rd April. The builders John Munro from Thurso built the Turret and were hampered by the worst winter in Scotland since 1962. It was not so much the snow but the very low temperatures that caused difficulties. It was designed by Lachie Stewart of ANTA and David Lawrie was the site architect.

The new turret

It is now possible to get a wonderful view over the hedges and so you do get a bird's eye view of the walled garden and of course on a good day you can see The Old Man of Hoy very clearly with the telescope mounted on the Turret.

It is certainly a marvellous asset and is likely to be appreciated by children and adults alike.
